Loudoun's only nature preserve is on the table. The Board of Supervisors votes Tuesday, May 5.
Loudoun County's only nature preserve is on the May 5 Board of Supervisors agenda as a "consent" item, designed to pass without debate. The Virginia Outdoors Foundation approved the proposal in writing without a site visit, acknowledging the trails will cross protected riparian buffers and seep zones.County staff have already coordinated with fencing contractors, finalized gate installations, created signage, and drafted public-facing materials before the Board has voted. This isn't a decision. It's a rubber stamp. They're deciding what happens to your preserve. They didn't ask you.
In June 2025, the Board approved 4 miles of equestrian trails in non-sensitive areas of Banshee Reeks. Then PRCS staff added 4.3 more miles — through the protected riparian buffers and seep zones the easement was created to protect. Now the Board is being asked to approve all 8.3 miles as a single consent item.No environmental study. No site visit. No public hearing on the expansion.
